Navigating Through Crisis

Navigation.jpg

How do we navigate through a crisis?

Any organization must adhere to its values, mission and goals, this is the course that is set from day one, the compass setting, guiding your way in good times and hard times.  We cannot lose sight of this because the clouds of crisis distract us from a clear visual path that is evident during the good times of growth.  It is in times of crisis that we must utilize the navigation tools at hand to guide us through the storm and out the other side, on course, still moving in a positive direction.

How do we come out of the crisis still on course?

Our People are the key, the heart and soul of any organization.  Leaders set the course, managers and supervisors maintain & reinforce the direction, but employees drive and power the organization ultimately to the end goals.

Adding to your Employee Experience and recognition culture is a competitive advantage, as we pull through this storm.

How are we recognizing our employees now?

Are we taking the time to say “Thank you” and reassuring them that their efforts are valued and appreciated, especially during this time of crisis, especially in a forced remote work situation due to the lockdown orders.

How will we recognize them when they pull us through this storm?

When the time is put in, the effort is given and the goals have been achieved, how will you recognize and reward your team for supporting the values and mission of your organization through the storm?  We learn a lot about our employees during a crisis, and they learn a lot about their organization as well. Now is the time for Senior Leadership to step up, have a plan in place to take care of the employees that have taken care of the organization and helped keep them on course.

If you unsure of how to recognize your team, let me help you with your plan. AIG has the tools and experience to help guide you through the process of engaging your team through an objective platform that will convey your appreciation through this crisis and for years to come.

The Incentive Research Foundation 2020 Outlook

The Incentive Research Foundation has a positive outlook on 2020 based on the linked research. A healthy economy and overall corporate growth are giving the Incentive Industry professionals reason to continue to be optimistic. Inclusion, budgets, and spending are all increasing. This trend is great news for everyone.

According to the data, budget continues to be the biggest consideration however it has its importance is declining and corporations are becoming more focused on appealing to the personal preferences of their employees. While all recognition is important it’s encouraging to see that corporations are moving away from a “one size fits all” approach to rewards.

Executive support continues to be a challenge and the most common reason for program cancellation however the use of analytics to determine a program’s merit is increasing drastically with satisfaction of participants as a key metric in evaluation.

The article is well worth the time.

Engagement Through Books

October 31

D. Blackman

Much has been written about the effect engagement influences organizational success yet numerous surveys continue to point out that the majority of employees aren’t engaged. This article from The Harvard Business Review highlights a somewhat unique approach that Norvant Health, a North Carolina based network of 15 medical centers, has implemented several years ago: a companywide book club.

Set up as a voluntary program, the company provides copies of the book to everyone and then employees, of all levels, meet to discuss the book. They’ve chosen books that not only reinforce their culture but ones that provide opportunities for personal growth. It’s a wonderful way to engage employees by giving them a common topic and an equal voice.

Well worth the read.

What is Employee Engagement? Learn the Value of an Engaged Workforce

October 22, 2019

D. Blackman

Do you know what employee engagement means? Engaged employees are the lifeblood of successful organizations. A large number of factors influence the level of engagement within organizations. Culture, recognition, and management are just a few. “94% of employees with great managers report being passionate about their work and energized by their job” That’s wonderful.

The flip side to that is “employee disengagement costs the U.S. economy between $483 to $605 billion annually in lost productivity”
