Years ago…management felt that paying a disgruntled employee more would ultimately change behavior for the long-term. Unfortunately, money is not the answer. The reason individuals are not happy in their work environment is from lack of recognition and feeling they are under appreciated. This often times is as a result of a weak or fractured relationship with an immediate supervisior.

According to compensation experts Todd M. Manas and Michael Dennis Graham:

“Noncash rewards are the only real way to differentiate your employment offerings. Cash is a commodity, so it cannot differentiate one company’s employment contract from another; it is the intangibles that distinguish. Besides, when it comes to money, someone will always pay more.”
